Frequently
Asked Questions about BriteSmile tooth whitening
What is BriteSmile?
An advanced tooth whitening system that can return your teeth to their ultimate
natural whiteness – in about an hour. It is the most popular in-surgery
whitening system in the world.
How long does the process take?
Your appointment will be 1 ½ hours.
How white will my teeth become?
Most people’s teeth whiten by between 2-8 shades. As a general rule,
the darker the teeth are to begin with, the greater the change in colour will
be. Ultimately, the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness.
How long does it last?
This depends primarily on the individual as certain habits, such as cigarettes,
coffee, tea, coke, and infrequent visits to the dentist for regular cleaning
can work against the results. Regular professional care and use of the BriteSmile
Professional Whitening After Care products can help maintain your natural
whiteness for a couple of years. Some people may prefer to have the BriteSmile
whitening treatment more frequently.
How does it work?
A whitening gel is applied to your teeth and the BriteSmile light is used to
activate the gel. Your natural whiteness will be restored in about an hour
through a completely safe process of oxidation.
Is it safe?
Yes! It will not soften enamel or existing fillings. The primary ingredient
(hydrogen peroxide) has been safely used in teeth whitening for over 100
years and is recognized as an effective whitening ingredient by the dental
community.
Will it hurt?
The majority of our clients experience no pain or sensitivity. However, a small
percentage experience a minor dull ache. (An analgesic almost always resolves
the feeling). In the event of tooth sensitivity it is best to avoid very
hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours after the procedure.
How does BriteSmile compare to other in-office whitening options?
In our experience, Britesmile is the safest and most effective in-office whitening
system available. Before and since investing in the Britesmile system we have
trialled all of the leading in-office whitening systems on the market. Britesmile
has consistently proven to give a better result, and cause much less tooth
sensitivity than any of its competitors. Britesmile’s active ingredient
is 15% hydrogen peroxide; rival products use concentrations of 25% or above
which can cause extreme toothache. In addition, the activation light used during
Britesmile contains no UV rays, in contrast to other systems which can burn
the skin. Our tests also showed that BriteSmile’s whitening results equal
or exceed those of all other systems tested.
How does BriteSmile compare to home whitening options?
Leading tray systems can achieve similar results, but usually require at least
a week of usage. Leading whitening toothpastes achieve an average of 1.5
shades change over an entire month of use. (Source: http://www.britesmile.com/how/comparing.html)
Will the procedure whiten my existing crowns
or veneers?
It will successfully remove stains from crowns, veneers and tooth coloured
fillings. However, a whitening treatment in general cannot change the original
colour of these restorations.
How can I maintain my new white teeth?

Floss daily
